World Juniors tracking got loud for Washington Capitals prospects when Cole Hutson opened with two helpers.
Friday's tournament opener in Minnesota had plenty of scoreline chaos, with the United States beating Germany 6-3 and Sweden edging Slovakia 3-2. Canada also outlasted Czechia 7-5, so nobody had time to ease in.
Hutson, 19, was at the center of the American breakout game, finishing with two assists as the U.S. pushed pace and kept the puck moving north. That's the version of him Washington wants, quick retrievals, clean exits, and a steady point touch.

Caps fans can't help it, Hutson's touches already feel like a power play waiting to happen. When he's confident, he uses the middle of the ice instead of living on the boards, and it changes the whole shift.
The other loud name on the scoresheet was Petr Sikora, who posted a goal and an assist for Czechia in that wild one against Canada. Even in a loss, a two-point start matters, especially when it comes from direct routes and finishing around the net.
Sweden's game was tighter, and Milton Gästrin didn't get a point in the 3-2 win over Slovakia. That's not a panic button, it's one night, and those games are often about details, stick position, and surviving matchups.
Germany's side featured Maxim Schäfer, and he was held off the scoresheet in the 6-3 loss to the Americans. The bigger tell will be Saturday, when the next shift has to be cleaner through the neutral zone and braver in the slot.
Saturday's slate brings another quick turn, and that's the best part of this tournament, you get answers fast, and the Capitals' prospect story changes every day.
