Washington Capitals top prospect Ryan Leonard looking to make impact in first playoff game

Ryan Leonard won the gold medal at the World Juniors and skated in NCAA tournament games, but nothing quite compares to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
That's why, ahead of the Game 1 against the Montreal Canadiens, Ryan Leonard sat quietly at his stall after the Capitals' morning skate and was taking in the moment.
"I've obviously played in a good amount and number of games in high-pressure situations, so this will be a little bit different just being at the highest level," Leonard said. "But excited for the challenge and excited for the journey."
Ryan Leonard turned pro in April after leaving college early and has already logged nine NHL games and has scored a goal and 11 penalty minutes, but he's adjusting to the NHL's relentless pace and condensed schedule
He says he's growing more comfortable each day.
"Everything's a little bit quicker here and professional. You're playing three, four games in a week rather than two, back to back nights," Leonard said. "It's a little bit different, just like your day off and how you prepare."
Heading into the playoffs The Washington Capitals are looking to Ryan Leonard to provide energy and impact from the bottom six and he's slotted on the third line with Lars Eller and Andrew Mangiapane wich is a trio the coaching staff hopes can find rhythm and consistency as the playoffs begin.
It's a big stage, but Ryan Leonard isn't backing down and for him, it's all about building confidence and continuing to earn his role.
«These last however many days or weeks I've been here, it's helped me a lot,» he said. «I'm excited for the playoffs.»
