Milton Gastrin and Petr Sikora bring World Juniors hardware back to the Washington Capitals prospect pool.

Sweden beat Czechia 4-2 on Monday night to grab gold, giving Gastrin a championship photo for the family album. Sikora had to settle for silver, but Czechia pushed late after falling behind 3-0.
Sikora, Washington's 2024 sixth-round pick at 178th overall, drove play all tournament with nine points in seven games. He won draws, hunted pucks on the forecheck, and played heavy minutes as captain.
Gastrin, the Caps' 37th pick in 2025, played six games but finished with zero points and four penalty minutes for Sweden. He was scratched for the final, a reminder that coaches trust his details more than his box score.

Milton Gastrin, Petr Sikora earn WJC medals

Caps fans are wired to chase points, yet it's hard not to like how Sikora and Gastrin kept showing up in the hard areas. As a pipeline check, two medals in one night still feels like a win for the organization.
Sweden's game was simple and stingy, stacking the neutral zone and keeping slot chances to the outside until their skill got touches. That structure can bury a young center's offense, but it also teaches the habits that earn NHL coaches' trust.
Sweden's third World Junior gold was built on patience, then a burst, and they finished 7-0 in the tournament. Czechia's late push made it tense, but the empty-netter finally killed it.
Back in club play, Gastrin has 18 points in 25 games for MoDo in HockeyAllsvenskan, so the scoring touch is still there. Sikora heads back to Ocelari Trinec with six points in 12 games, now as a 20-year-old with two straight WJC medals.
For Washington, the next step is turning those tournament reps into pro minutes, and that is where the real separation happens. If Gastrin grabs a bigger role next winter and Sikora keeps winning matchups, the prospect chatter will get loud again.
