No suspension for Jalen Chatfield after controversial hit on Connor McMichael

The Washington Capitals had a disastrous game against the Carolina Hurricanes last night, suffering a 5-1 loss and losing goaltender Logan Thompson to an upper-body injury. That said, things took an ugly turn in the 3rd period as Carolina Hurricanes defenceman Jalen Chatfield took down Capitals forward Connor McMichael, sparking fans calling for a suspension.
The third period turned chaotic as a flurry of scuffles broke out.
When a team is down 5-1, tensions often rise, and this game was no exception. Frustrations boiled over on both sides, leading to a heated finish.
Chatfield swung Connor McMichael over his left leg into the ice after the two squared up in the third period of the Hurricanes' 5-1 win. Neither player had a helmet on when the incident occurred and McMichael appeared to hit his head on the ice.

TSN analyst weighed in on the incident, sharing his insight on the dangerous play -- Button believes it warrants a suspension.
"This is a dangerous play," Button said. "It's an intent to injure play, there's no room for it. The fact that Connor McMichael didn't get any type of an injury on this, that in of itself is good fortune... The way he whips him around over his leg, I think it has to be a suspension. There's no place for that in this sport of hockey."

According to NHL insider Frank Seravalli, no disciplinary action is expected for Jalen Chatfield's takedown -- a decision that comes as a huge shock to fans.
Chatfield's hit appeared to be malicious and had the potential to cause serious injury, leaving fans outraged over the lack of response from NHL Department of Player and Safety.
