According to Corey Pronman of The Athletic, the 2025 Draft Class is slightly below average, though as the season went on, it began to look better. The top 5 prospects project to produce numerous high-quality NHL forwards.
Ranked players are placed into tiers and given tool grades, (poor, below-avg, average, +avg, high-end and elite) with average meaning the tool projects as NHL average, and is meant as a positive, and not a criticism.
Tier 1 - projects to be an NHL All Star
1st: Matthew Schaefer. Skating +avg, puck skills +avg, hockey sense +avg, compete +avg. Projects as a star numer-1 defenseman, and is compared to Jake Sanderson.
Tier 2 - Bubble NHL All Star and top of the line-up
2nd: Michael Misa. Skating +avg, puck skills +avg, hockey sense +avg, compete +avg, shot +avg. Projects to be a no. 1 star center to build a team around. Compared to Tyler Seguin.
3rd: Porter Martone. Skating - avg, puck skills high-end, hockey sense avg, compete +avg, shot +avg. Projects as top-line winger to put up lots of points and plays a heavy game. Compared to Flip Forsberg.
4th: Caleb Desnoyers: Skating avg, puck skills +avg, hockey sense +avg, compete +avg. Projected to be a no.1 center who can play in all situations. Compared to Niko Hischier.
Tier 3 - Top of the line-up player
5th: James Hagens. Skating +avg, puck skill high-end, hockey sense +avg, compete avg. Potential to be a play-driving top-2 line center. Compared to Willian Nylander.

By all reports, Matthew Schaeffer will be the most coveted in the upcoming draft, and will improve the d-core of the team that selects him immediately.
