Justin Sourdif and Alex Ovechkin powered a Washington Capitals win over the Anaheim Ducks.

Washington won 7-4 on Monday, and Sourdif did the loudest work. The rookie winger finished with three goals, two assists, five points, and 16:59 of ice time.
It is hard not to smile at how fast his story has turned in Washington. The 23-year-old was a 2020 third-round pick, 87th overall by Florida, and the Caps paid real picks to bring him in.
His hat trick was not a lucky bounce party, it was repeatable offense. He kept slipping into the slot after entries, and Connor McMichael kept finding him with pace through the middle.

Justin Sourdif turns Capitals offense into chaos

You could feel the crowd inhale every time Sourdif touched the puck, because the release looked dangerous all night. That is the kind of rookie pop Caps fans have been begging to see beside the usual veterans.
Ovechkin still made sure the night had his fingerprints, scoring twice, including an empty-netter. Ryan Leonard added a goal and an assist, and McMichael piled up four assists, which quietly drove the whole thing.
The Ducks pushed back with volume, outshooting Washington 45-29, and the game never felt fully safe. Charlie Lindgren gave up four, but the Caps also traded too many clean looks off rush chances and broken coverages.
What I liked most was how direct Washington played when the moment got tight, no extra passes, no waiting for the perfect seam. If Sourdif keeps hunting the middle like that, the next milestone is staying in a scoring role when the schedule bites back.
