Just now, the Washington Capitals front office sent a mass email out to season ticket holders stating that the 2025-26 season would be Alex Ovechkin's last one in the NHL. In a shocking new development, Caps' insider Sammi Silber claims that the email sent out by management is not accurate.
Just confirmed with the Capitals that the email regarding this being Alex Ovechkin's final NHL season is not accurate.
I think it's fair to say that this morning has been an emotional rollercoaster for the Washington Capitals faithful.
Minutes ago, sources claimed that the Washington Capitals front office sent a mass email out to season ticket holders stating that the 2025-26 NHL would be Ovechkin's last one.
Sammi Silber, a prominent insider who works directly with the team has since shut down those rumours, claiming the email sent out by management is inaccurate.
In an official statement made by the Washington Capitals, the organization admits the email was a mistake made by the corporate sales department.
Alexander Ovechkin's future remains uncertain?
Next season, the Washington Capitals captain has one year, $9.5 million remaining on his contract with a full no-movement clause.
While Alexander Ovechkin's future appeared to be a lock next season, this new development has fans scratching their heads yet again.
Ovechkin will almost certainly become the first player ever to score 900 career goals in October and it is awfully tough to imagine him doing it in any other jersey.
