Yesterday, Washington Capitals defenceman Alex Alexeyev made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Unfortunately, Alexeyev was taken into custody following an incident involving public intoxication and a physical altercation, during which authorities had to use pepper spray to subdue him.

Well, Alex Alexeyev's antics may have cost him his future on the Washington Capitals.
According to RMNB, A crime report gathered by ARLnow reportedly notes that «Aleksandr Alekseev, 25, of Arlington, Va. was arrested and charged with Public Intoxication.» The 25-year-old defender was booked at the Arlington County jail at 4:19 am Saturday.
As reported yesterday, Alexeyev was released, but no official court date has been set as of yet.
Here is the official statement from Arlington PD:
At approximately 3:26 a.m. on May 17, officers on patrol in the 3100 block of Clarendon Boulevard were flagged down by a witness who reported an active fight outside of a business,» Arlington County Police Department spokesperson Kiyah Daniell told ARLnow. «Officers subsequently observed the male suspect involved in a physical altercation with the male subject.

Alex Alexeyev's NHL career now in jeopardy

While this isn't the first time we've seen pro hockey players fall off the wagon, this is definitely a really bad situation for Alex Alexeyev.
After Martin Fehervary's season-ending knee injury, Spencer Carbey placed his trust in Alexeyev, giving him the opportunity to step up and fill a critical gap on the blue line.
Although Alexeyev got off to a decent start, his play gradually declined, resulting in him being benched midway through Game 4 against the Hurricanes.
Despite his inconsistencies, Alexeyev's performance had been good enough to keep him in the conversation for a starting role next seaason. However, this recent fiasco could jeopardize his future and put his entire NHL career in serious doubt.
More details to follow.
