Andrew Cristall and Ilya Protas turned a Hershey Bears micd up clip into Washington Capitals prospect gold.

RMNB shared the moment Friday, pulled from a Hershey Bears practice where Cristall was wired and fully himself. You can tell fast, the kid has jokes and no fear.
The audio starts with Grant Cruikshank trying to warn everyone that No. 20 is mic'd up, and Cristall instantly leans into it. After a shot he did not love, he sings out a dramatic «freebie» like he is on a stage.
Then he slides to the bench and finds assistant equipment manager Dillon Filepas, who clearly wants zero part of the bit. Cristall still asks about a back rash, and the whole exchange lands because it feels so normal.
At center ice, Cristall gets flanked by two towers, Ilya Protas and Eriks Mateiko, and Protas throws a clean chirp right away. Cristall fires back, calls himself nasty, and challenges the 6-foot-6 Mateiko to one-on-one basketball.
The funny part is how it fits the on-ice picture for Cristall, the 40th overall pick in 2023 who just led the WHL with 132 points on 48 goals and 84 assists. Skill is obvious, but confidence is the separator.

Andrew Cristall and Hershey Bears mic'd up vibes

Caps fans have begged for more Bears access, and this clip is exactly the kind that builds real buy-in.
On the ice, Cristall wins with touch and deception, he changes pace on entries and finds seams off the half wall. The AHL grind will keep testing his puck touches under pressure and his details away from it.
Protas and Mateiko are the perfect foils, big bodies who can win races to pucks and make space in the slot. Protas was the 75th overall pick in 2024, and Mateiko went 90th the same draft, so the pipeline here is very real.
If Hershey keeps letting these guys breathe a little, the next milestone is simple, turn that same swagger into points when the games tighten up.
