Jakob Chychrun keeps lifting the Washington Capitals with another electric night against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

The veteran defenseman pushed the pace early, and his confidence showed in every zone. Washington leaned on clean exits, and Chychrun punished Columbus with sharp reads that opened space for transition chances.
His first goal came off a broken play sparked by Ryan Leonard, who continues to look more comfortable every game. Chychrun patiently collected the loose puck, waited out pressure, and ripped home his eighth goal of the year, giving him 21 points in 23 games this fall.
Tom Wilson praised that blend of poise and power, and he was right to highlight the heavy stick work Chychrun brings. Columbus struggled to disrupt him, and Washington fed off that control throughout the night.

Jakob Chychrun extends streak with Capitals surge

Fans have noticed the swagger returning to his game, and the arena lifted every time he stepped into the offensive zone with room to shoot. That energy felt earned, especially given his eight game point streak.
His second goal arrived on a new look power play that wasted no time finding rhythm. Chychrun stepped into a lane near the blue line, fired in stride, and watched the puck sail past Elvis Merzlikins for a quick strike. John Carlson followed only 12 seconds later, giving Washington a franchise record for fastest back to back goals by defensemen.
Spencer Carbery credited Chychrun's attack mindset and pointed to how quickly he jumps into pockets when Washington gains possession. That aggression helped the Capitals defense corps hit four goals on Monday and reach a league high 19 goals this season.
Logan Thompson added his own praise, calling Chychrun an elite talent, and the numbers agree. The 2016 first round pick by Arizona is on pace for a career best 29 goals at age 27, and his eight multi point games already match his strong start from last season.
Washington needed stability from its blue line after a rocky opening stretch, and Chychrun has become a central piece of that turnaround. The streak may end eventually, but his impact feels like it will linger far longer.
