Finally, a bit of good news in what's been a rough week for the Washington Capitals. After learning Pierre-Luc Dubois would be out long term with a lower-body injury, the team now believes it's not a season-ending situation.

Reporter Sammi Silber shared the update Tuesday morning, quoting team sources who confirmed the forward's latest injury won't require surgery - at least for now. It's a small but meaningful relief for a team already short on forward depth and struggling to find offensive rhythm.
It's the second major injury Dubois has dealt with in just over a month. He previously missed five games in October with an upper-body issue before returning to form on Washington's second line. In six games this season, he's posted 0 points and averaged just under 17 minutes per night - modest stats, but his presence down the middle helped stabilize the lineup.

Capitals relieved as Dubois expected to return later this season

Head coach Spencer Carbery didn't set a specific timeline, but his tone has softened since calling the injury «a huge hole» earlier this week. With Connor McMichael now holding the second-line center role and rookie Justin Sourdif getting expanded minutes, Washington's focus will be on surviving the stretch without their big second line center.
Here's Sammi Silber's reassuring update:
The Capitals have endured an uneven start to the season, losing four straight before regrouping this week. Knowing Dubois's injury won't end his year offers a spark of optimism - and the hope that, come spring, their full lineup will finally be healthy and whole.
Pierre Luc Dubois plays an incredible shut down role for the Capitals, so his absence is going to hurt, but let's hope the Capitals can rally together and get some points while Dubois heals.
