The Washington Capitals recalled Bogdan Trineyev and moved Nic Dowd to injured reserve, shaking up the Hershey Bears pipeline and their bottom six.

Per Tarik El Bashir, the Capitals have called up Trineyev from Hershey while placing veteran center Dowd, upper body, on IR, a notable pivot down the middle for Washington.
The team has not yet issued a full release, but this aligns with Dowd missing the last stretch of games and being listed as banged up for several days.
Trineyev, 23, has quietly built a strong AHL résumé. The 6 foot 3 winger hit career highs last season with 14 goals, 8 assists and 22 points in 62 games for Hershey, and owns 38 points in 127 career AHL games.

Bogdan Trineyev steps in as Nic Dowd sits

Trineyev's game fits what Spencer Carbery usually trusts in a fourth line role, responsible on the wall, heavy on pucks, and very comfortable killing penalties, something he did regularly for the Bears during their Calder runs.
He also brings a bit of scoring touch, coming off a playoffs where he led Hershey with seven points, five goals and two assists, in eight games, after already winning the 2024 Calder Cup.
Dowd's move to IR is the tough side of this shuffle. The 35 year old has five points in 19 games this season and remains one of Washington's most trusted matchup centers and penalty killers, so losing him again hurts the structure of the bottom six.
There is a bit of timeline whiplash here; injury trackers as recently as Monday still listed Dowd as day to day or a game time decision, not on IR, which shows how quickly this situation shifted.
The Capitals sit in the mix at 12-9-2, and how they navigate this stretch without Dowd, while testing Trineyev, could say a lot about their forward depth this season. For now, one fan base favorite grinder sits, another hungry one finally gets the door cracked open.
