Alex Ovechkin keeps stacking Washington Capitals power play records as he chases Jaromir Jagr on the NHL all time list.

According to the Capitals PR staff, that primary assist on Sunday pushed him to 608 career power play points.
Alex Ovechkin now sits at 327 power play goals and 281 assists, only three points behind Jaromir Jagr's 610 for 10th all time.
That is a ridiculous total for any player, never mind a 40 year old who entered the league back in 2005. Drafted first overall by Washington in 2004, Ovechkin has turned the left circle into his personal office for two decades.
Since that 900th goal against the St. Louis Blues on November 5, he has piled up 17 points, nine goals and eight assists in Washington's surge.
The Capitals have won seven of their last eight games, and the captain has registered at least a point in four straight.

Alex Ovechkin closing on Jagr's power play mark

The latest helper came on Tom Wilson's power play one timer at UBS Arena, with Ovechkin patiently working the right flank before zipping a pass through the seam. From a fan seat, it honestly feels like his so called decline phase is just an extended, nightly stats column update.
Tactically, nothing has really changed, the Capitals still run most entries through the right side, then look for that cross ice seam into Ovechkin's shooting lane.
What has evolved is his patience and distribution, he is just as likely to thread a pass as hammer a one timer now.
He already holds the NHL record for power play goals, sitting at 327 and counting, and now the overall power play points list is firmly in range too.
Jaromir Jagr is stuck at 610 points, while Ovechkin is still playing big minutes and living on the top unit every night.
