The Washington Capitals are coming off a clutch 5-4 shootout victory over the Carolina Hurricanes last night, and it's clear the team is mentally preparing for the crucial weeks ahead. Following the game game, Alexander Ovechkin made himself available to the media, sending a clear message about his next mission.
After being decisively outshot 1-4 and falling behind 2-0 in the first period, the Capitals began to show signs of mental lapses creeping back into their game.
That's when it became clear-- Alexander Ovechkin had seen enough.
The Washington Capitals captain took matters into his own hands, getting physically involved and sparking a momentum shift that the entire team rallied behind.
Washington responded with four unanswered goals to storm back and take the lead.
While the game eventually went to a shootout, the Capitals walked away with the win-- and in his postgame interview, Alexander Ovechkin sent a clear message: He wants another Stanley Cup.
