Alex Ovechkin opens up on Sidney Crosby rivalry ahead of emotional final showdown

As the regular season comes to an end, the NHL will once again spotlight one of its most iconic rivalries between Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.
But this time, the tone is different and what was once a fierce on-ice battle has evolved into a bond built on mutual respect.
Now the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer, Alex Ovechkin has spent the past week trying to put the milestone even further, but before the playoffs begin, he'll meet Sidney Crosby one more time in Pittsburgh.
Appearing on The Pat McAfee Show Monday, Alex Ovechkin talked on how their relationship has grown since entering the league together in 2005.
«The first couple of years was not that good, but right now we talk, congratulate each other if we hit some milestones,» Ovechkin said.
Once bitter adversaries, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby now represent a golden era of hockey and two generational talents who carried the Capitals and Penguins through multiple Stanley Cup runs and countless unforgettable moments.
«What we did to NHL, it's a tremendous thing," Ovechkin said. "People gonna talk about Crosby and Ovechkin, Pittsburgh and Washington for maybe 20 or 50 more years, and it's great.

Alex Ovechkin, while Sidney Crosby at 37 just clinched his 20th straight season averaging a point per game and also broke Wayne Gretzky's legendary record.
As these two legends take the ice together once more, all the fans across the hockey world will soak in the moment for one last regular-season chapter in a rivalry that defined a generation.
